Abstract

Miniature Aerial Vehicles with four rotors is called Quad-rotor MAV, popularly used in aspects of life such military, civilian products, processes and remote sensor, etc. In this paper, the authors present the suitable structure of control system for the Quad-rotor MAV. The first, the Six Degrees of Freedom (6 DOF) of the Quad-rotor MAV dynamic model is built. After, the control structure with the single loop is built. But in the single-loop system, only four control signals of Quad-rotor MAV can be controlled, so the Quad-rotor MAV can be reached the height only and keep the stability. However, it is important to note that we have to well-known the orbit of the Quad-rotor MAV flight; the Quad-rotor MAV must fly point-to-point exactly, so the six coordinate variables must be controlled. So, the double loop control structure system is proposed to do that. Finally, the simulation results analysis and the experimental results of the real model are explored to prove the effectiveness of the proposed structure.

Abstract

In this paper, a three-phase load connected to a NPC three-level inverter is presented. To generate gate signals for the multilevel inverter, two commands are developed and compared: the phase disposition pulse width modulation (PDPWM) and the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM). DC supply is provided by photovoltaic cells. Boost converter controls the power transfer from photovoltaic generator. Due to nonlinear I-V characteristics of photovoltaic cells, a maximum power point tracking algorithm is adopted to maximize the output power, the nonlinear controller (sliding mode) is developed and simulated. To verify the effectivnesse of the introdueced controller, it is compared with the fuzzy logic controller. Matlab-simulink is used for simulation, analysis and interpretation the results of these controllers.

Abstract

Fuzzy logic controller has been the main focus for many researchers and industries in motor drives. The popularity of Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) is due to its reliability and ability to handle parameters changes during load or disturbance. Fuzzy logic design can be visualized in two categories, mamdani design or Takagi-Sugeno (TS). Mamdani type can facilitate the design process, however it require high computational burden especially with big number of rules and experimental testing. This paper, develop Self-Tuning (ST) mechanism based on Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy type. The mechanism tunes the input scaling factor of speed fuzzy control of Induction Motor (IM) drives Based on the speed error and changes of error. A comparison study is done between the standard TS and the ST-TS based on simulations approaches considering different speed operations. Speed response characteristics such as rise time, overshoot, and settling time are compared for ST-TS and TS. It was shown that ST-TS has optimum results compared to the standard TS. The significance of the proposed method is that, optimum computational burden reduction is achieved.

Abstract

Now a day’s renewable energy sources became an interesting area of research of which fuel cells are emerged as an alternative source for producing electricity to meet the energy crisis. This led to a research on power conditioning systems through which fuel cell is interfaced to the utility. Of the different converter topologies Isolated full bridge boost converter (IFBC) topology is most suitable for fuel cell applications. In this paper a Predictive Switching Modulator (PSM) Control is proposed for the converter topology and its performance is compared with Linear Peak Current Mode control (LPCM), Non-Linear Carrier Control (NLC).

Abstract

Generally, the Permanent Magnet Tubular Generators (PMTG) are employed in the free-piston generator systems. In this paper, the PMTG with the core made of Soft Magnetic Composite (SMC) is employed, and then, the PMTG with the solid SMC core has cylindrical symmetry and also the outer diameter of the machine reduces in comparison to the ones with multipart laminated steel cores in which each part is radially placed along the air-gap and there is unexploited space between them. Here, a Finite Element Method (FEM) is developed in which the reciprocating motion of the translator is considered by moving mesh techniques and moreover, the Jiles-Atherton (JA) scalar hysteresis model is incorporated in the FE model to take into account the hysteresis losses. Then, the copper and core losses are computed and the equivalent circuit of the generator is derived. The calculated losses are compared with the ones obtained from the analytical methods.

Abstract

Brushless DC (BLDC) motor is more reliable than classic DC motor with higher efficiency. Commonly used conventional linear controller such as PI, PID and PD controller. FLC is considered a replacement to conventional controller due to advantages on non-linear system. Hybrid controller e.g Fuzzy PI controller is developed to cope with drawback of both controller. Simplification of FLC in previous study is the pioneer of the idea of proposed method. Single-Input Fuzzy PI Controller (SIFPIC) is a hybrid controller that combines advantages of linear PI controller and fuzzy controller in one control structure. Since it is a single input based fuzzy controller, it yields simpler design and tuning process.  Simulation is done using MATLAB/Simulink and the performance is observed through speed response under several conditions namely constant speed, changing seed and changing load torque. The performance of SIFPIC is compared with conventional PI and fuzzy PI controller. SIFPIC is as expected produced a response similar with the conventional fuzzy PI controller with both fuzzy based controller produce response with better dynamic.

Abstract

This paper presents the modeling and real-time simulation of an induction motor. The RT- LAB simulation software enables the parallel simulation of power drives and electric circuits on clusters of a PC running QNX or RT- Linux operating systems at sample time below 10 µs. Using standard Simulink models including SimPowerSystems models, RT-LAB build computation and communication tasks are necessary to make parallel simulation of electrical systems. The code generated by the Real-Time Workshop of RT- LAB is linked to the OP5600 digital real-time simulator. A case study example of real-time simulation of an induction motor system is presented. This paper discusses methods to overcome the challenges of real-time simulation of an induction motor system synchronizing with a real-time clock.

Abstract

The conventional three-level inverter has been proposed to act as a recuperating converter in Traction Supply Substation. This converter is mainly used to feed back the regenerative braking energy to the grid. However, passive filter is desired to mitigate the current and voltage harmonics. Therefore, this paper investigates the possibility to use a seven-level Cascaded H-Bridge (CHB) converter as the recuperating converter without additional filtering. The proposed converter is modeled with MATLAB/Simulink simulation software. It is then simulated with two potential modulation schemes, namely Phase-Shifted PWM (PS-PWM) and Phase-Disposition PWM (PD-PWM). The quality of AC waveforms produced by these two modulation methods is compared and studied. The results show that PS-PWM technique is preferable for this application as it offered a clean AC current waveform with less than 5% harmonic distortion. However, a twenty-one-level CHB was predicted to comply with the 8% voltage harmonic requirement.

Abstract

This paper analyzes influences of renewable fraction on grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) for office building energy systems. The fraction of renewable energy has important contributions on sizing the grid-connected PV systems and selling and buying electricity, and hence reducing net present cost (NPC) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission. An optimum result with the lowest total NPC for serving an office building is achieved by employing the renewable fraction of 58%, in which 58% of electricity is supplied from the PV and the remaining 42% of electricity is purchased from the grid. The results have shown that the optimum grid-connected PV system with an appropriate renewable fraction value could greatly reduce the total NPC and CO2 emission.

Abstract

This paper explains an improved capacitor voltage control (i-CVC) by combining with maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm as a control strategy for a single-phase Z-source inverter (ZSI) using photovoltaic (PV) source. The existing CVC based-MPPT control algorithm has a net shoot-through interval which should be inserted in the switching waveforms of the inverter to produce maximum power at the Z-network of the PV. However, this net shoot-through period is formed by an additional shoot-through period which has drawbacks as it boosts the capacitor voltage to a greater extent beyond the allowable voltage boundary of the capacitor. İn other words, the PV will boost the voltage more than the desired level as per required by reference capacitor voltage of the Z-network. Due to this problem, an improved capacitor voltage control (i-CVC) with general Perturb and Observe (P&O) based on ΔT0’ configuration of the changes shoot-through duty cycle to maintain the DC-link of the ZSI is introduced and been tested in simulation case with a resistive load. At the end, this modification able to assist the MPPT output power by increasing the overall system effectiveness of power generation by the PV.
